    Mail.app just doesn't cut it
I've tried to like Mail.app, really I have. When I got my mini I was open to trying to use a gui mail client. In fact, I'm still open to using a gui mail client but mail.app is not it.

Perhaps I just haven't found the right settings but mail.app doesn't support sig monster, proper message threading, it's text editor sucks compared to vi, and is very slow in dealing with deletion of lots of mail. I find myself missing the features and configurability of mutt.

Does anyone know of a gui mail client for the mac that has the features of mutt?

    aI need programming classes
I hate it when I'm writing some code and I hit a wall where I don't know how to correctly do something (correctly defined in a programming theory kind of way). Sure I can do an ugly hack to get around it, but I hate doing ugly hacks if I can avoid it(I blame my dislike of ugly hacks on spc). I really need to take some programming classes to learn the prober theory of this shit.

In case you're curious this is in regards to a new function I'm writing for my gothix installer shell script. It's a function to handle doing disk partitioning and I want it to be able to do any kind of partitioning for a single disk per call.

    Gothix
Gothix is the linux distribution that I designed for the company I work for.
Jim Stanley came up with the name gothix when I was originally joking about making my own linux distro with a gothc flair. I never got around to doing that project, but when the company needed a linux build I volunteered and decided to call it gothix as I liked the name.

Just some random thought that popped into my brain today. I had forgotten that jim originally came up with the name.

    Musings on working with Jim
when I started working here in August of 1999, Jim had been here a few months and was a character. I quickly grew to like him and his sense of humor and comments. He was on 2nd shift and I was on 3rd so our paths crossed for a few hours every day we worked. He was one of the founding members of the group that made up the kill9.org colo group. We both became teir 3's and worked togather doing advanced tech support. I moved to unix sa and he stayed in support for a while, finally moving to windows sa. We both worked 3rd shift together as SA's. Jim took a leave of absense to be with his ailing father. Jim came back but had to leave the company at the February of this year to move up to Alabama to help take care of his father.

Jim left me with many memories and laughs over our 6 years as friends. May he Rest in Piece.

    rpmbuild help
Ok, I've been through tons of docs, man pages, etc, etc and now I need help.

As far as I can tell, I should be able to make rpm's out of non source programs and such, but I'll be damned if I can figure out how. Anyone care explain it or point to a place with useful docs?

Mac mini : Mac user opions needed
I can't believe I'm going to say this but here goes.

I'm thinking about replacing linux with a Mac Mini running os X as my primary desktop. I've already read the reviews out there on the mini and am impressed. I've said for a while that I'd love to try out os X but the price of a mac has always been too high. At $575 dollars (a mac mini with 512 meg of RAM) the price is definitely right.

My question is if a mac mini running os X will actually be as usable or more to me than my beloved Linux. Can any mac user comment on this? Especially those of you who have used a *NIX as a desktop for awhile and switched to os X,

While I was on vacation I went up to Virgina to see my parents and my favorite aunt and uncle. We went to Nauticus and toured the USS Wisconsin. Pics of the tour are here. What a truly awesome ship.

There must be something deeply wrong with me
Recently I had a wild hair up my ass to re-read Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, so I went out and bought it and am currently reading it. There must be something wrong with me on a very deep level to want to re-read this book. Don't get me wrong, it's a good book with some great concepts, but Dark Gods, is it long and overly verbose. I swear Ayn Rand must have set VERBOSE=1,0000 when she wrote it.

    Justice League Unlimited
I haven't seen Justice League since it's first season. I liked it then but wasn't about to be a slave[0] to the tv to watch it. Fast forward to now, I have a PVR. After seeing [info]shadesong's post about Justice League Unlimited I decided to set up the PVR to record it every saturday night, well it and Teen Titans.

I watched the new episode last night and I must say WTF. The episode was good and I'm happy that I'll be able to watch the show from now on but, there were 20+ super heroes on the show. WTF. what did I miss it used to be only about 4 -5. Some on want to clue me in on what happened?

mythtv, car wrecking, moving, life in general
What have I been up to?

Getting mythtv working. Mythtv rocks. For the price of a Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250 TV encoder card I know have my own PVR[0]. I'm starting to enjoy watching TV again. IT's so nice to browse show listings, choose what I want to watch and watch it whenever I feel like with no commercials. For anyone with Linux clue that want's a pvr I strongly recommend mythtv.

I managed to wreck my car. I hit a curb at about 30 MPH and the passenger side front tire buckled in bending about $2,000's worth of shit. Thank the dark gods for insurance. Geico made the whole experience painless, from getting my rental car to having an adjuster out in under 24 hours to getting my car back. My car is now back from the shop fully repaired. Everyone in the car was fine.

Stacy[1] and Bruce finally got engaged so Stacey is selling the house and moving in with Bruce. This means I have to find a new place to live. I'll be moving in with Dave, but Dave and his dad have to clean out the room I'll be moving in to. The Realtor thinks the house will sell very quickly so Stacy and I are preparing to move out this month.
